Online counselling has become a popular medium for therapeutic work for a multitude of different reasons. Many people have irregular work hours which makes it difficult to sustain a consistent and continuous commitment to the work which counselling therapy involves. Many have to travel long distances for work or to be with their family which can frequently limit available time and increase stress levels. Having another commitment such as regular weekly counselling can also add to that stress and consequently seem counter productive.
Because of the sensitive nature of the personal work which counselling therapy embodies some people find it easier to discuss trauma and related experiences in a online counselling setting. Face to face counselling can also be done in tandem with online counselling when the client’s circumstances permit. When possible it is advisable to meet face to face particularly for the first session if the client is comfortable to do so but it is always the client’s prerogative to decide.
